  • a fair few blisters – your feet will not thank you for overdoing it with 40 km on the very first day…

On Friday we took the bus to Kaitaia, from where it is roughly another 100 km to Cape Reinga, the northern tip of New Zealand and therefore the start of our adventure. Since there is no public transport on that stretch, it meant sticking out a thumb. With four different friendly drivers we finally reached the cape in the evening.

On Saturday we set off on our trail early in the morning – first 20 km through beautiful dune landscapes.

Then we reached Ninety Mile Beach, which is “only” 80 km long. Around the same time as us, roughly ten other people set out with the intention of walking the TA. Here are simply a few impressions from the first days:
