Restday in Hobbiton

Restday in Hobbiton

From Hamilton it is only a stone’s throw to Hobbiton – the film set of “The Lord of the Rings” (1999) and “The Hobbit” (2011).

Admittedly: it is veeery touristy and – even if you cannot tell from the pictures – very crowded.

Four to five groups of 30 people are funnelled through the Shire at the same time, which probably never looked like this during filming but was embellished with all its details afterwards.

Never mind! After four weeks on the trail we thoroughly enjoyed seeing New Zealand from its tourist side for once!
